The Hub aims to build and strengthen the nascent entrepreneurial ecosystem in Lesotho and to improve access to seed financing for startups and innovative SMEs (hereafter collectively referred to as "enterprises"). The program provided training, mentorship, peer learning and access to tools. <br><br> Devcamp<br> A British Council UK Nigeria Tech Hub (UKNGTH) funded program, Devcamp is a 12-week intensive software development bootcamp designed for new developers to become work-ready in areas of web development and mobile technologies. The program focuses on promoting entrepreneurship and equipping young Nigerians with the tools and opportunities to contribute to increased economic productivity through the vehicles of innovation and entrepreneurship. Carefully selected participants were trained in 2020 with 70% recorded in employment, out of which 7 products were developed including a medical-screening app and an e-commerce platform. <br><br> Kids Cypher Coding<br> Kids Cypher, a Wootlab digital club initiative, was developed to teach young children coding and programming languages as an afterschool summer program with a goal of 100,000 students per state. Wootlab has a structured curriculum and uses a mixed approach to teach kids programming ideas and techniques, combining small, face-to-face and online teacher-led lessons with build-as-you-learn projects. Coderina is an independent Non-profit organisation Ed-Tech that works to promote ICT development, Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Africa. <br><br> Programs: <br> - FIRST® LEGO® League guides youth through STEM learning and exploration at an early age. From Discover, to Explore, and then to Challenge, students will understand the basics of STEM and apply their skills in an exciting competition while building habits of learning, confidence, and teamwork skills along the way. <br><br> <br> - CS First is one of many Google initiatives focused on computer science education. CS First provides free, easy-to-use computer science enrichment materials that engage a diverse student population in grades 4-8 (ages 9-14). Facilitators use the video content to teach kids coding basics with Scratch, a block-based coding tool. <br><br> <br> - Digital Literacy initiative to introduce African youth to coding, computational thinking and other relevant skills to prepare them for the future of work and the 4IR Africa Code Week is the story of hundreds of schools, teachers, governments, and nonprofits getting together to bridge the digital and gender skills gap in Africa. The goal of Africa Code Week is to empower the young generation by teaching the coding skills they need in order to thrive in the 21st century. Africa has the largest and youngest workforce in the world, yet many companies present on the continent today are struggling to fill I.T. related positions with a local and qualified workforce. Currently, only one percent of African children leave school with basic coding skills. <mark>Africa Code Week aims to boost a continent-wide initiative to foster digital literacy, and to spark the interest of African children, teenagers, and young adults in software coding.</mark> Around 89,000 young people across 17 African countries received basic coding training during the inaugural Africa Code Week back in 2015. The Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) is an entity of the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI). TIA promotes the development and exploitation of discoveries, inventions and innovations to improve the quality of life for all South Africans by bridging the innovation chasm between research and commercialisation. <br><br> The object of TIA is to <mark>support the State in stimulating and intensifying technological innovation to improve economic growth and the quality of life of all South Africans by developing and exploiting technological innovations.</mark> <br><br> TIA’s focus is on technology development; from proof of concept to pre commercialisation. To achieve this, TIA established the following funds: the Seed Fund, the Technology Development Fund, and the Commercialisation Support Fund.
NITDA
National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) was created in April 2001 to implement the Nigerian Information Technology Policy and co-ordinate general IT development in the country. <br><br> <mark> NITDA had identified that there is a clear lack of adequate skilled manpower that will drive local content development and industrialization in the country.</mark> <br><br> To address and reduce those inhibiting factors, the use of IT Hubs to foster the further development of all sectors has become imperative. To achieve this and also support the primary responsibility of the agency which is regulation and promote the development of the IT sector, it established IT Hubs in strategic locations across the country. This is also seen as another strategic effort to attract and support stakeholders who are industry players toward the promotion of IT for industrialization. Through capacity development programmes at the centres, the country will overcome the shortage of skilled manpower and address the poor business and investment climate which increasingly hamper the growth of the IT sector. <br><br> Through the Hub, NITDA tends to provide the right enabling environment by putting in place, a combination of high quality infrastructure, support services. It is expected that the host communities and environs will leverage on the facilities available at the centres and create a full value chain across the IT sector ecosystem. <br><br> The Hubs are fully equipped with both networking and computing devices to support the complete state of the art Printed Circuit Boards (PBC) production machines. The centres are expected to develop competency for local production of PCB devices and other downstream components of the IT goods. <br><br> Through the use of the IT Hubs, Nigeria is poised to achieve some of the followings among others: <br> - Diversification of the nation’s economy through local production of IT tools and services. <br> - <mark> Development of strategic thrusts where Technology, Finance, and Human Resources, are going to be harnessed to create an enabling environment for the potential development of microelectronics, Software applications, and Entrepreneurship.</mark> <br> - Create a means of creating a stronger bond between Government, Academia and the private sector by focusing on the development of local talent through research and business ideation and promotion. <br> - To establish a well Structured IT Hub that will operate along the full IT value chain, from ideation to commercialization, and will be well positioned to help fulfill the expanding economic missions of the country. <br> - Each Hub will serve as a regional Hub for next-generation IT research and incubation projects, and will also capture value by commercializing IT products and services. <br> - As a long term objective, the Hub will create self-sustaining ecosystems that will expedite the development of an indigenous IT industry and help <br> - Nigeria transform herself into a knowledge-based society. <br> - Create a local supply for the IT Sector to meet the increasing demand for IT goods and services from both the public and private sectors. <br> - Generate a steady stream of suitably skilled graduates for companies in the IT Hub to meet the expected high demand for skilled manpower.
