Tanzania AI Lab & Community aspires to empower anyone in Tanzania to access the potential of AI for the growth of themselves and the nation. We exist to bring together and connect those passionate in AI and social impact to work together in facing the challenges around us. Buni Hub

Buni Hub is an innovation space in Dar es Salaam - Tanzania, the space accommodates preliminary stage startup companies. With a well established community of 400+ registered members annually, Buni Hub offers practical hands-on support programs to its registered members. The programs include: 1. Buni Internship Program 2. Buni Mentoring Program 3. Buni Community Outreach Program 4. Buni Divaz (Ladies Community) The hub is also home to a mini fabrication lab for small scale production of electronic softwares and hardwares. The fabrication lab hosts a 'makers community' made up of in-house and registered tech enthusiasts.

Twende

Twende is a social enterprise dedicated to empowering local community members to improve their quality of life through the innovation and implementation of low-cost technologies. As an innovation center of Tanzanian students and instructors, Twende aims to merge local experience and technical knowledge into affordable innovations. Technologies built at Twende are affordable, comprised of locally available materials, and address a specific social need. Through school and community workshops, Twende supports aspiring entrepreneurs in the creation of their own solutions to community problems. Led by Tanzanian inventor Bernard Kiwia, Twende aims to be a beacon of social innovation and technological empowerment in Arusha, Tanzania and around the globe. Very few technologies currently address the needs of rural Tanzanian communities. And those that do, often fail to substantially improve quality of life in villages for following reasons. 1. Rural technologies often are designed and manufactured abroad, leaving Tanzanian villagers unable to repair their devices, especially when materials are not locally available. 2. These technologies are not developed with a rich understanding of local needs and resources, often making them irrelevant or impractical. For example, technologies that require electricity are useless for most Tanzanian villagers who do not have access to or cannot afford electricity. 3. Most rural technologies are too expensive for the average villager. These problems have left an estimated 30 million villagers without access to technology to charge phones, see at night, and harvest their crops. Not only would these villagers stand to benefit from more productive technologies, but so would the Tanzanian economy as a whole. Twende technologies address the aforementioned problems through the development of intermediate technologies that 1. utilize locally available materials, 2. are designed WITH rather than FOR village communities, 3. derive out of village needs and imperative, 4. are inexpensive and affordable for villagers, 5. are able to be repaired locally. Twende is able to develop these technologies by engaging communities through community workshops and providing vital technical support and tools through its innovation center platform. Following the teachings of Amy Smith and her colleagues at MIT’s D-Lab, Twende has adopted a new model of community-based innovation called creative capacity building (CCB). Through technology workshops, Twende engages students and villagers in creating their own technologies to improve health and safety, save labor and time, and increase their incomes. Through an interactive, hands-on curriculum, people of all education levels are able to become active creators of technology, not just passive recipients. A key component of the follow-up to the CCB training is a space where people can come together, apply what they have learned to design, and build technologies that can positively affect their lives. The Twende workshop ideally serves as this nexus of creativity, where aspiring inventors can learn about new technologies, develop their mechanics and design skills, prototype their ideas, create technology products, incubate micro-enterprises and obtain guidance on how to market the technologies that they create. Workshop tools are available to all participating community members and maintained through a small fee.

Kiota Hub

Kiota Hub is an open space for idea nurturing, mindset transformation, networking and co-creation for community empowerment. It operates under the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Iringa. The space was opened in November 2016. Our primary focus is to work with youths in Sothern Highlands who are Entrepreneurs or aspiring to be Entrepreneurs ,with ideas, prototypes or start-ups with Minimum Viable Product (MVP). We also work closely with other innovation stakeholders like the Government, NGOs, and innovators from inside and outside the county.

Impact Hub Dar es Salaam

Impact Hub Dar es salaam is focused on changing the narrative in innovation. Rapid growth of innovators necessitates instant action to build a support system for their business stability and growth. This not only champions economic growth but it also forges a sense of collaboration amongst innovators as they solve the community’s most pressing challenges whilst turning them to entrepreneurial opportunities. The space provides a co-working environment for innovative businesses. We believe this is a kick off stage to building a community of changemakers who can collaborate in different projects to enhance sustainable development. Our space includes a multipurpose 119M square area for meetings, training sessions and independent working spots, a dancing room of 116M square for dance classes and rehearsals, and a 76M Square fully equipped music studio. Our space is uniquely designed to form a community of entrepreneurs for positive impact through their business. Ennovate

We are focused at the core of facilitating an inclusive economy in Africa, where every business, entrepreneurs and African youths are fully engaged, having the right tool, resources and mindset to contribute towards transforming Africa. Ennovate Hub runs incubation programs that provide a startup pipeline for our venture fund. Through top level incubation programs, we enable idea-stage startups to go through intensive ideation and validation activities, to prove business concepts and gain tangible market traction. Startups from the incubation program are well supported to build market-informed and data-centric startups that are fluid enough to scale and clearly create a unique value proposition for their intended market. Promising startups from the incubation program are selected to join our venture fund.

Cube Zanzibar

Cube Zanzibar is a start-up and business enabler that offers incubation services, financing and business acceleration support to start-ups and small businesses in Zanzibar. We help bring ideas to life and get businesses to excel. Cube Zanzibar was officially registered as a non-profit organization on 10th October, 2018 with the registration number Z0000008214 under Zanzibar’s Societies Act Number 6 of 1995. Vision Small businesses become the engine of Zanzibar’s economic & social development. Mission Cube Zanzibar is the primary hub that entrepreneurs work with to launch and grow their businesses. Our Main Objectives Cube Zanzibar was established whereas, we do hereby freely and voluntarily associate together to strengthen, reinforce and consolidate efforts to empower young people through: - Promoting innovation, creativity and entrepreneurial mindset to young people in Zanzibar. - Providing hand on / practical learning and engagement in the process of science, technology and innovation. - Fostering problem solving ability and project based learning. - Providing co-working space and makerspace for those who are in need. - Helping the community in creating solutions that solve various problems including but not limited to business, health, tourism, blue economy etc.

Dar Teknohama Business Incubator

DTBi is a Tech Incubator in the country that promotes the growth of ICT technology-based emerging companies, Start-ups and those with innovative ideas contributing to job creation (including youth and women) and enhanced economic health of the nation. The Dar Teknohama Business Incubator (DTBi) is a Not-For-Profit Company run as a business registered in Tanzania. It has its own Board made up of members from Private Sector, Public Sector, NGOs & CSO. COSTECH is a shareholder and is part of the founding members, which includes infoDev of the World Bank. DTBi is a Tech Incubator in the country that promotes the growth of ICT technology-based emerging companies, Start-ups and those with innovative ideas contributing to job creation (including youth and women) and enhanced economic health of the nation. Furthermore the incubator’s aim is to serve as a hub for technology start-ups and actively identifies and provides for the value-added services required to support incubator clients success. Turning an idea into a profitable business requires passion and dedication which, the staff of DTBi does provide, including the valuable support entrepreneurs need.
